Questions & Answers
How do I book this retreat?
(a) You simply click on a ‘Book’ button anywhere on our website & fill out the form. Remember that your trip is not guaranteed until we have at least 6 people signed up for the retreat.
(b) To secure a booking:you must pay us (or our authorised travel agent) a deposit or make full payment if the booking is made within 30 days of your “Retreat Start Date” (i.e. the day you are required to check-in to your hotel at the relevant retreat destination). It might be a good idea to contact us if you are booking so close to a retreat date!
(d) You are required to pay the full balance at least 30 days before the Retreat Start Date if you’ve only paid a deposit.
Note that when you submit your booking request, we will treat this as a ‘not-guaranteed’’ booking, at this point the booking is only provisional and is not confirmed. Your booking is accepted and becomes definite only from the date when we send you an e-mail to confirm that your ‘on request’ booking has been confirmed. For bookings made via our website, any acknowledgement of your booking request we send to you in the meantime is not a confirmation of your booking.
Please refer to the Flamingo Padel Retreat Booking Terms & Conditions (the “Booking Terms” for full details).
Can I pay in my own currency and what cards can I use?
We accept any card payment from Visa or Mastercard and depending on payment method, also American Express.
We accept payments in up to 30 currencies, depending on the payment method.
We generally accept payments made using a prepaid, debit or credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Revolut Pay.
There is more information on currencies and payment methods here.
Are flights and transport from and to the airport included in the price?
No. Timing of flights, from which airport, what cabin, arrival times, etc. – you are the expert in this department, so we leave it to you to book your own flight and transportation to and from airports. Of course, we are always here to assist if you have any questions or need other help.
How do we guarantee our retreats & When should I book my flight?
In order for a retreat to be guaranteed we require the minimum group size to have been met (typically six people). Once your retreat is confirmed by our team, you can go ahead and book your flight.
For all destinations we strongly recommend that you purchase flexible flight tickets as well as travel insurance that includes Covid-19 cancellation cover in the event you need to amend or cancel your flight tickets.
We will confirm that a retreat is going ahead no later than 30 days prior to the date your retreat is due to start.
Which airport do I need to fly in and out of?
Fly into and out of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport, and also known as Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN).
What time should my flight arrive (in time for the welcome drinks!)?
We recommend taking a flight that arrives before 12 pm on Day 1, so you can unpack, chill by the pool & freshen up before the welcome drinks (typically around 6pm local time).
What time should my flight depart on the last day?
It’s your last day, so it’s really up to you. If you can handle it, we offer more padel play (but no coaching) on your last day until you need to catch your flight! If all other fellow flamingos are flying early, we can do our best to hook you up with 3 other Spanish players to play with. Just let us know before your retreat start date.
Do I need a visa?
You do not normally need a visa if you’re visiting as a tourist from the EU, UK, USA, Australia or Canada. Please check with your local consulate/embassy if the country you are travelling from requires a visa.
From 2024, ETIAS travel authorisation will be an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to European countries.
We recommend that you have at least six months validity remaining on your passport and can show a return ticket.
Do I have to share a room and what if I want to upgrade to a room just for me?
Our retreat pricing is generally based on either sharing a room with someone else or booking your own private room. In short, you can either (a) pair up with a friend and share a room, or (b) upgrade to have a room all to yourself.
What’s the difference between a ‘Classic’ and a ‘Fancy’ Flamingo retreat category?
We heard what solo travellers were saying and rolled out two types of Flamingo retreats: ‘Classic’ and ‘Fancy’. The Classic ones are still premium but more wallet-friendly, especially if you’re not into sharing rooms.
Fancy Retreats: With Fancy retreats, you’ll know the exact hotel you’ll be staying at when you book. For Classic retreats, we select your hotel closer to your travel date from a list of our favorite spots, which helps keep the cost down. The details of your Classic Flamingo retreat on our website—such as hotel, room type, and negotiated benefits—are typical for our Classic retreats (and you might end up at that specific hotel), but you’ll only receive confirmation of these details once we send you an email.
Hotel Selection: The hotels we pre-select for our Classic retreats are all premium, with at least a 4-star rating (or equivalent). Fancy retreats go a step further, typically placing you in 5-star hotels with larger rooms and more luxurious amenities. But don’t worry, quality is our top priority, so whether you choose Classic or Fancy, you’re in for a treat. (Check out this FAQ for more information on our standards.)
What standard should I expect from a Classic Flamingo Retreat?
You can always expect a carefully selected and vetted hotel or other accommodation that is at at least 4* rated (or equivalent). Plus, we have sent our best negotiators to each hotel and managed to get the best benefits, discounts, and offers for your stay.
What’s included in my Barcelona Fancy Flamingo retreat (Grand Central Hotel)?
What’s included in my Barcelona Classic Flamingo retreat (Duquesa de Cordona hotel)*?
Yep, everything listed here is part of your retreat. Just a heads-up: for Classic Flamingo retreats, we’ll nail down some specifics closer to your retreat date. In particular, the accommodation suggested here is an example only (but we guarantee minimum 3* & up for your accommodation). We’ve marked all the things that will be confirmed later or is subject to availability with an “*”.
What if I’m a beginner or I’ve never played padel before?
We’ve designed our retreats so that they are suitable for all levels of play – although our focus is on beginners and mid-level players. Our coaches will evaluate individual levels at the beginning of the first coaching session to optimise the groups’ coaching experience and assign each retreater a rating (more on ratings here).
Players will typically then be coached in groups according to their rating. In our experience, even if you are a total beginner, you will only need 1 hour of tuition to be able to enjoy padel at the amateur level.
What if I’m an advanced player?
If you are an advanced player with a rating of 5 and above (according to the LTA Padel Rating System), and you feel that you would benefit more from 1-on-1 coaching, then we are happy to arrange that for you at an extra cost.
How do I get to the padel club?
If our partner club is not walking distance from your hotel, we typically chauffeur you to the padel club and bring you back to the hotel.
Do I have to participate in all dinners, drinks and surprise activity/event organised by the FPR team?
In short, no. But we would really love it if you did! Why: (1) from our experience, getting to know your fellow retreaters has a great impact on your overall holiday experience, (2) we’ve carefully selected and tested the restaurants and bars for our planned outings; you really don’t want to miss out, and (3) it’s included in your package! Please do tell us in advance if you are not participating in any of our activities.
What are 'Friends, Singles & Special Editions’ about?
We’re obsessed about you meeting new people, but we know not every flamingo fancies the same flock! That’s why we’ve crafted tailor-made trips: the ‘FRIENDS EDITION’ for those keen on kindling new friendships, and the ‘SINGLES EDITION’ for the happily single adventurers eager to mingle with fellow solo flyers. And because we love shaking things up, we occasionally launch ‘Special Editions’ – unique, experimental retreats. Right now, we’re excited to offer a Special Edition Retreat specifically designed for folks in their 40’s & 50’s!
What’s Under30 Pricing?
We know being 30 years of age and under can often be challenging from a 💸 perspective. There is so much fun to get up to but your boss refuses to give you that raise! Our Under30 pricing allows you to travel in style but on a slightly lower budget. Just contact us in advance!
You Are Welcome!
What is your cancellation policy?
To cancel your retreat you must tell us in writing (email or by post) as soon as possible. Your notice of cancellation will only take effect when it is received in writing by us and will be effective from the date on which we receive it.
You must pay a termination fee which covers our administration costs and compensates us for the risk that we do not resell your retreat. The fee is based upon how long before your Retreat Start Date you tell us you want to cancel and is a percentage of the total price of your retreat.
Period before your Retreat Start Date within which notice of cancellation is received by us in writing | Cancellation charge as a % of total booking price* |
31 days or more | Loss of deposit (at this point, you will only have paid a deposit amount & not the full booking price) |
30 – 26 days | 70% |
25 – 21 days | 90% |
Less than 20 days | 100% |
Remember that if you are on our list of guests who are looking for another person to share a room with, and you have paid a small deposit, you will not have a confirmed booking in place. In such cases, we will simply refund you the deposit money if we don’t manage to find you a roommate.
Please refer to our Booking Terms for full details.
Do I need travel insurance?
We require our guests to secure adequate travel insurance (including health insurance) before travelling to our retreats.
Are these the terms and conditions applicable to my FPR retreat?
Our Booking Terms are set out in a separate document, and accepted by you when you book the retreat with us. It can also be downloaded from our website. The terms and conditions contained in our Booking Terms will at all times prevail over any information provided in the FAQ section of our website, the Q&A section of the relevant destination on our website and any other representation (in writing or orally) or document. Accordingly, in the event of any discrepancy or conflict, our Booking Terms will govern.
Please find our Booking Terms here.
Are these FAQs specific to this particular retreat?
Yes. They apply to all Barcelona retreats. Our FAQs on a separate page apply to all our retreats, including this one. We recommend that you take a look at these as well as they may answer other questions you may have re your trip!
Will this retreat itinerary change?
Please be aware that the itinerary, activities and hotels are subject to change. These changes can happen with little notice due to availability, poor weather, seasonal changes, or other circumstances beyond our control – but we’ll always do our best to ensure it has little impact on your experience. From time to time, we may also make changes to your itinerary because the team have explored new places and we think it’s worth shaking things up a bit!
